The Attack on New Macross City was an event during the Malcontent Uprisings in 2013.
Prelude[]
In December in the jungles of the Amazon region of South America, a large force of Zentraedi soldiers under Khyron's command assessed the damage level of a half-buried battlecruiser. On the command deck, Khyron radioed a team looking at the Reflex Furnaces. He was told that the furnaces wouldn't run unless they got some Protoculture soon. While the main reactors could be working after a few days' work, takeoff would still be impossible. Still, Khyron said he wanted all reflex weaponry functional immediately. He ordered his entire crew to go to standby alert and informed them of his plan--a raid on a factory sector to seize the Protoculture Matrix necessary to refuel the ship's main reactors.
Event[]
In New Macross City on a sunny Christmas morning, a dockworker reflected on his perfect life as he lit a cigarette, only to find his life over as a team of Zentraedi Battlepods led by Khyron leaped from the waters before him.
Inside the SDF-1 command center, Sammie Porter reported a Zentraedi attack in the industrial sector. Lisa Hayes ordereed all Veritechs to scramble as Max Sterling and Miriya rushed to their crafts.
Within the industrial sector, Khyron complained that Grel was leading them around in circles as entire sector was evacuated as the Zentraedi renegades searched for the Protoculture supply. At the SDF-1 command center, Gloval notes that they weren't attacking, merely searching for something. Exedore figured that Khyron was searching for the Protoculture necessary to repair his battlecruiser. Gloval ordered Lisa to direct the Veritech Fighters to defend the Protoculture storage warehouse at all costs.
Khyron surveyed the area around him, finding the Micronians to be better prepared than he anticipated. He looked up just in time to see a Veritech swooping down to attack.
As Max and Miriya's squad approached the industrial sector, a small team of Quadranos led by Azonia flew out of hiding to intercept the Veritechs. They managed to knock out a few of the duo's wingmen, but were no matches for the Sterlings.
After hearing about the Zentraedi attack on MBS, Rick Hunter discovered that it was in part of his sector, and wonders why he wasn't notified. He switches to his uniform, and told Minmei he'd be back soon, and hurried to the airfield where he found Skull-One waiting to take to the skies once more.
Khyron found the Protoculture storage matrix and hoisted it onto his shoulder, staggered under the weight for a moment, and ordered one of his men to cover his flank.

Returning to his Officer Battlepod, Khyron used a pair of grappling claws in the feet of his mecha to grab hold of his prize. He ordered Grel to prepare to move out as soon as possible, and Grel gave the order to return to base.
Max radioed Rick with a report that the retreating Zentraedi forces were headed right for him. Rick told him to prepare to block their escape route. As a burning Quadrano fell to the water below, Max told Miriya he was going down to help Rick. He then spoted the landing enemy troop carrier on his radar touching down in the city.
As Max and Miriya's Veritechs raced towards Khyron's carrier and Skull One fired away at it from below, the surviving Zentraedi forces managed to escape to the safety of their getaway ship. It began to lift off, and Khyron sent a message out to his foes: "Attention Micronians, this is Khyron the Destroyer. I want to wish all the people of Earth a merry Christmas, and I send you a special greeting from Santa Claus. May all your foolish holidays be as bright as this one." At the moment Khyron's message ends, somewhere in the city, a Micronized Zentraedi in a Santa suit pushed a trigger, setting off explosives throughout Macross City. Rick looked back from the cockpit of his Veritech and decides that helping to save the city was far more important than pursuing Khyron. He asked Max if he was with him, and grudgingly Max decided to let Khyron escape in order to help the civilians.
Aftermath[]
The squad, armed with fire-retardant bombs, descended into Macross City to put out fires and rescue civilians. They managed to bring the fires under control, and while few were thinking of presents, the people of the city had not lost their holiday cheer. In the street outside a church, a number of citizens sang "Silent Night".
With Khyron gaining the necessary Protoculture to run his Warship, he would go on to attack the SDF-1 and SDF-2 in January of 2014 in the Battle of New Macross City.
