"Birthday Blues" is the 80th episode of Robotech, part of the Robotech: The New Generation saga.
Summary[]
Annie wants to celebrate her birthday, but with an activated Invid Hive nearby, it'll take more than just party planning to keep the freedom fighters safe.
Synopsis[]
Annie announces that today is her birthday, but things are looking grim when the party discovers a Invid Hive on high alert, seemingly expecting them to travel through this route. Taking cover in an abandoned town before they are spotted, the freedom fighters prepare to hatch two separate -- but related -- plans.
As preparations are made to bait the Invid with a protoculture-signal, Annie confides in Marlene that her birthdays have always been a disaster, with her parents leaving her alone and never having had a celebration with friends and family.
The first plan comes to fruition as Rand leads Annie and the girls into an abandoned house, where they surprise her with mint chocolate cake. But the festivities are short lived, as Corg and several Invid troopers converge on the house, only to fall right into the protoculture-baited trap! A series of explosives take out several of the Invid, forcing them to flee as fireworks begin to go off at the edge of town.
With the Invid scared off, Lancer, Rand, Rook, and Scott take the skies in their Veritechs and use colored smoke to spell out a happy birthday message to the beaming little girl.
