Robotech continuity refers to the "official" history of the series. It consists of the core canon, including the animated series, and secondary continuity.

On this site, we once attempted to find a singular, accepted canon to use for articles. Thankfully, due to the recent Titan comic series, it's now accepted that there is no singular Protoverse, meaning that we now seek to include all stories. For instance, you may notice the page for Rick Hunter has numerous branching alternate pages at the top. This allows you to navigate to alternate "Canons" to explore, while still keeping that of the TV show as the "primary" page.

Basically, in the eyes of this wiki, any story that would once have been deemed "non-canon" is simply a "separate canon of work," or in other words an alternate universe.

On that note, here is how we judge what is acceptable for the main, non-DABed pages:

The main "canon"[]

Primary Canon sources[]

The original TV stories, considered sources above all else. On this wiki, these stories include:

  1. The original 85 episode anime, including The Macross Saga, The Robotech Masters, and the New Generation
  2. The three episodes produced of Robotech II: The Sentinels, either in the form of the 1986 home movie release or the three separate episodes released on the remastered DVDs.
  3. Robotech: The Movie
  4. Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles
  5. Robotech: Love Live Alive
  6. If made, Robotech: Academy
  7. The post-reboot comic series, including Robotech: From the Stars, Robotech: Invasion, Robotech: Love & War, Robotech: Prelude to the Shadow Chronicles.

Secondary Canon sources[]

Secondary sources are all other sources not overwritten by Primary Sources. These sources can be viewed as canon by certain fans, but Harmony Gold themselves can choose to ignore, and thus overwrite them, at any time. Because of the many years Robotech has been around, many of these stories show slight inconsistencies with other media, and thus should be considered carefully.

  1. The Robotech video games, including Robotech: Battlecry and Robotech: Invasion. This is due to gameplay variations.
  2. Robotech/Voltron, a story that fleshed out the canon but is... strange, considering Dynamite Comics owned the rights to publish Robotech stories for a very short time.

Everything else[]

Once we've sorted the issue of what our "main canon" is, the next issue is how do we cover everything else. Our plan, which is only half-acted out as of now, is to write additional articles for the different takes on the expanded universe. For instance:

  1. Rick Hunter covers what Harmony Gold once called "the canon"
  2. Rick Hunter/Titan covers the recent universe-spanning reboot storyline
  3. Rick Hunter/Eternity-Academy covers the universe depicted in the 1990s comic books
  4. Rick Hunter/Novels will (when properly fleshed out) cover the events of the novelizations. The novels depict a canon much unlike the TV show, meaning that covering them as a separate entity simply makes sense.

In theory, no matter how weird or tangential the franchise has ever gotten, we can cover any story under these means, giving everything a proper place on the site. So if you see a tag calling a story or character "non-canon" or something of the like, then it only means an editor hasn't gotten around to changing that for the better.

Tertiary sources[]

A Tertiary source is an index and/or textual consolidation of primary and secondary sources. We at Robotech Saga Wiki are against using these sources in the place of actual information, and the practice should be avoided as much as possible. These sources may be used to flesh out technical infobox information (such as size) and for images, but we should prioritize actual stories over these.

These sources include:

  1. The Robotech.com database.
  2. Any reference books.
  3. Robotech RPG Tactics
