Dana Sterling was a half-human, half-Zentraedi woman, the eldest child of Max Sterling and Miriya Sterling. Dana was left on Earth when her family traveled with the REF to Tirol.
When she was 16 she joined the Academy and had an affair with Terry Weston. She was also the obsession of Lazlo Zand, but was protected by her godfather Rolf Emerson.
Upon graduation, she was assigned to the 15th ATAC hovertank squadron and was a key figure through the Second Robotech War, meeting Zor Prime and inspiring him to fight back against the Robotech Masters control.
During the difficult time after the second war and the Invid occupation, she tried to keep her people alive, and eventually stole the REF battlecruiser to meet with the REF.
She was then caught up in the Haydon affair.
