Jim Forsythe becomes Captain of the SDF-3. (Robotech II: The Sentinels: Preperations Again)
Jim Forsythe was a Sergeant aboard the SDF-3, who worked on the crew of the vessel. He became captain of the ship in the absence of Lisa Hunter. Years before, he had been a teacher at the Robotech Academy, and had taught Lisa on her first day. He doubted his qualifications for replacing Hayes, despite having been in service since before 1985.

Forsythe had been in service since before 1985. He later became a teacher for the Academy, where one of his students was Lisa Hayes. Lisa diligently followed his teachings, even memorizing one of his lessons containing to continuing in the scenario of a lost superior officer. (Robotech II: The Sentinels: Preperations Again)
Forsythe was on-board the bridge when Lisa Hunter entered, shortly before they activate a Space Fold to Tirol, the home planet of the Robotech Masters. (Robotech II: The Sentinels: Good Morning)
Forsythe became Captain of the SDF-3 when Lisa left to join The Sentinels, holding the place until her return. (Robotech II: The Sentinels: Preperations Again)
