Khyron "the Backstabber" was the warlord of the Seventh Mechanized Space Division of the Zentraedi. During the First Robotech War he doggedly pursued the SDF-1. He later became a leader of the Malcontents and destroyed the SDF-1 and SDF-2 on a suicide run in his rebuilt gunship.

After Zor sent the SDF-1 off and stranded Dolza, Breetai and their men to fight the Invid, Dolza sent a signal for help that was responded to by Khyron and his troop. In the battle he took down an Invid that crashed into the building Dolza and Zor were in and started a fire. Dolza survived and saved Zor but Zor was already mortally wounded from earlier. Later Khyron and Breetai were sent to find the SDF-1 but encountered Ortu who wanted their bodies for his own ends. Breetai told him that the Protoculture in his blood needed to be dealt with by his equipment, but when Breetai was freed to get it, turned on Ortu and freed Khyron. They fought their way out and the Zentraedi ships destroyed Ortu's ship but, Breetai was caught and imprisoned in a Combat Simulator with help from Nereg as revenge for rescuing him and ruining his honor. After Breetai began to break free of the simulator's illusion, Khyron shot Nereg and left a Plasma Grenade to take out Breetai and Nereg to cover his tracks. Nereg used his last moments of life to launch Breetai into space to be saved, before the Grenade took out the areas of the ship Nereg was in. Breetai was rescued but had no proof that it was Khyron as he couldn't recall what exactly happened and all the evidence was gone.
