The Macross Broadcasting System (later Macross Broadcasting Station, often initialized as MBS) was a broadcasting syndicate onboard the SDF-1 and on the post-reconstruction Earth.
History[]
MBS was a television service in operation during the First Robotech War. Months into the SDF-1's journey home, it covered the Miss Macross Competition, and had cameramen positioned throughout the stadium. (Macross Saga: Miss Macross) The same cameramen appeared in a dream Rick Hunter had while in a coma, this time filming a Minmei concert. (Macross Saga: "Phantasm")
MBS later filmed and aired Henry Gloval's transmission informing that citizens of the SDF-1 that they had been ordered off the Earth. (Macross Saga: "Paradise Lost")
MBS also aired and transmitted the wedding of Max and Miriya Sterling. (Macross Saga: "Wedding Bells")
According to one source, Kyle Bartley became an MBS reporter after being relieved from the RDF. In 2021, when a series of Zentraedi ships were detected defolding around Saturn, he was ordered to interview the leaders of the RDF onboard the incomplete SDF-3, as he was the only one on the ship with combat practice ("Crystal Dreams 1")

In 2029, the Macross Broadcasting Station, also known as Channel 3, reported on the news that United Earth Command HQ had discovered an alien spaceship, unknown in origin, to have defolded near the Earth. (Masters Saga: "False Start")
Behind the Scenes[]
- MBS appeared prominently in the Robotech: Return To Macross comic series which takes place before the anime. Personalities included investigative reporter Clayton Fortenspeil and Tim Holland, host of Macross Tonight. The station also used a Sea Sergeant helicopter for recording.
- MBS is based on the real life company Mainichi Broadcasting System which aired Super Dimension Fortress Macross, the source material of the Macross Saga.
- As noted above, MBS was where the character of Kyle Bartley was to be a reporter for in the cancelled game Robotech: Crystal Dreams.
