Marlene Rush was an Horizon-T-class frigate operator in the Robotech Expeditionary Force and Scott Bernard's fiancee. She was Killed in Action during the Second Reclamation Force's attempt to reclaim the Earth from the Invid. She was the older sister of Marcus Rush, who would become a Veritech pilot to avenge her death.
History[]
Background[]
She was born in 2023 during the Pioneer Expedition to Tirol. She would go on to join the Robotech Expeditionary Force, where she became part of the 21st Mars Division, which became part of the second Earth Reclamation fleet.
Third Robotech War[]
Marlene at her station
She met and fell in love with Lt. Commander Scott Bernard and became his fiancé when he proposed to her prior to the battle to reclaim Earth. The attack proved disastrous, as the Invid's superior numbers overwhelmed and destroyed nearly the entire fleet. As Marlene's ship attempted to enter Earth's atmosphere, it came under Invid attack and was destroyed. Scott Bernard, who managed to survive and land his Veritech fighter on Earth, was devastated by her loss. Prior to her death, she gave a special pendant to Scott as a memento of their romance, which Scott used as a motivator for his mission to destroy Reflex Point. Scott would go on to be haunted by visions of Marlene for some time. (New Generation: "The Invid Invasion")
Legacy[]
During his guerilla war against the Invid, Scott met a mysterious amnesiac redheaded girl, which deeply resembled Marlene, so Scott named her "Marlene" in honor of her. However, unknown to everyone, she was, in fact, the Invid princess Ariel, created through a DNA sample recovered from a destroyed vessel, which may have belonged to Marlene.(Metamorphosis (novel)).
Her death would motivate her younger brother Marcus Rush into becoming a pilot in the REF to avenge her death, and also develop a xenophobic hatred towards "aliens".

Marlene's spirit
During the Battle of Space Station Liberty, her brother would have a last conversation with her spirit encouraging him to keep on living and to let go of his hatred of aliens before moving on.
