Max Sterling a pilot in the RDF under the command of Rick Hunter.
Sterling dueled the Zentraedi ace Miriya Sterling and convinced her to defect and subsequently marry him.
Their daughter Dana Sterling became the leader of the 15th Alpha Tactical Armored Corps.
Following the end of the First Robotech War, Max Sterling became the leader of Skull Squadron, and during the Malcontent Uprisings, he was shot down in irradiated Cairo, but managed to escape, while his wife Miriya helped stop the Malcontent bioweapon plot.
When the Pioneer Expedition launched, Max and Miriya joined them, leaving young Dana with her godfather Rolf Emerson. After the Invid were defeated at Tirol, they joined the Sentinels.
