I think if done right most things can be made as a good anime. medabots, .//hack sign, good pokemon, Sonic, ninja gaiden had a good OVA, started as games
I never saw witchblade but transformers had a few g1 seasons like headmasters, super god master force, victory and zone.
there were some silent films turned anime like the blue bird.
I think it can work.
the problem is anime nowadays is too generic it is to dull. I mean when I got my first taste of anime it was sailor moon that made me say wow this is neat do not get me wrong it took me awhile to get in too anime fandom once I did it is like a sickness without a cure. what I think should happen is the old gen fans should try to introduce the new gen fans too old anime like sailor moon and robotech and other old anime that way maybe just maybe when robotech comes out with Shadow Chronicles rising or robotech academy the new gen would say wow so robotech and speed racer started it all I want to find old anime and watch it too
Yeah most new anime doesn't really interest me either. I mean I see memes of them online but I never got into Attack on Titan or Code Geas. The only anime on tv is Pokémon and Yugioh and both have had better seasons. One anime I liked was Hokuto no Ken/Fist of the North Star. The movie was even dubbed with the Robotech actors. I miss Fox Kids having Digimon and Mon Colle Knights and Medabots and Escaflowne and other 90s shows when I was a kid. I liked the Canadian dubs of DBZ and GT and Sailor Moon and feel the newer ones don't have that same magic. Although some newer shows I felt were good included the Thundercats reboot and the Yugioh before Arc V. I personally like 80s and 90s OVA's based on mangas from around the time. On my youtube channel I've been abridging some for the last few years and some I think turned out well. Also I'm not into modern gaming and usually play my Sega Genesis and Gameboy games.
So that's you eh?. Your profile image reminds me a bit of Al Molina and Weird Al Yankovic for some reason. Good points raised. Also, The whole "if Macross was made today" things you pointed out seemed like my movie reviews where I (Lightheartedly) say how movies of the past would be ruined if made now. I hear that the new Dragon Ball series is getting some hate for similar reasons (and many people are saying GT was better).
I agree once a show is deemed a winner it should not be rebooted that goes for movies too. take dragon ball once a series ends it ends the reason a lot of the old anime/cartoon shows are getting redone is because todays fans do not understand how good the old shows are
Nowadays it seems the only movie series not getting rebooted is DBZ and Star Wars. Everything else is rebooted to try to appeal to a new generation that only vaguely knows of it. I mean reboots have been around almost as long as films have been (The Universal Monsters like Phantom of the Opera or Frankenstein were done years before in the Silent era) and not all reboots are awful (I didn't hate the new Robocop). But its pretty consistent that the originals were superior. I loved Batman TAS and the other DCAU shows. But when Teen Titans came along I was pretty disappointed with how the once sophisticated and intelligent feel was gone and we got this downgraded goofy teen show. I've been rewatching them again (after seeing Batman Beyond) and my opinion is the same. Its like watching Japanese Yugioh then seeing the toned down 4kids dub where no one dies or fights or has any real danger. I mean the Chris Nolan Batman films were grand (esp after the Schumacher abominations) but I still kinda prefer the offbeat Tim Burton one from 89.
Actually I've never seen TTG. I was talking about the 00s Teen Titans. I've actually been rewatching the eps and making little lists of my thoughts on them. It just seemed like a full downgrade from DCAU. I know its a popular show for some reason and I just never synchroed with it. But now with TTG coming out, the Teen Titans fans reaction to it being the same as my reaction to the 00s Teen Titans. Also I find it ironic that the same people who loved the 00s Teen Titans also hated Dragon Ball GT for it being "not as good" as DBZ. For me, Batman TAS and Justice League Unlimited were like the 1989 Tim Burton Batman, while Teen Titans was like Batman Forever. They just seemed more reduced in coolness, intelligence and quality to reach a more mainstream audience.
I've never seen Space Dandy outside of a few Gif's online. The newest anime I saw was "Please Tell Me Galko-Chan" which is sort of a homey slice of life high school thing with some heart. Each ep is like 4 mins and its got some comedy and fun. Its a bit PG13 with fanservice and such but no real nudity is shown. Other than that I watch the new Yugioh (which isdnt as good as the last few series) and some Pokémon (which has seen better days). TV doesn't really show much anime anymore and I'm often watching 80s OVA's on youtube like MD Geist or Baoh.
I heard that the trade mark for "Shadow Rising" was let lapse by HG a few years ago. Perhaps they plan on using Academy to tell the story after Shadow Chronicles in the later eps or to use Academy to repaint the Haydonites in a more SC light.
To be fair, you never know what someone will wind up doing. Wisdomtree (the unlicensed bible game company) was obtained by Piko Interactive and is now having a kickstarter to fund a Plug n Play thing with their old games (and is in the works for new things (such as plans for an animated movie)). Disney bought Marvel and Star Wars and started making more movies. Hudson was bought by Konami and made that awful "dark and edgy" bomberman game on xbox. The list goes on.
