Ortu was an alien life form whose ship was caught in the gravity of a large planet. He and his crew transferred their sentience to mechanical constructs to survive and by the the of the SDF-1's launch to Earth, Ortu was the last survivor on his ship. When Breetai was searching for the SDF-1, he came across Ortu's ship and he alongside Khyron were captured by him. Ortu had been using captured alien life forms to make a new body for him to control and fought Breetai with a body he had made. After trapping Breetai, he told him and Khyron of his story and how he wanted their bodies. Breetai told Ortu that the Protoculture in Khyron's blood would need to be dealt with using equipment from Breetai's ship, but upon releasing the giant, he turned on Ortu and attacked him. Despite destroying the Spherical construct that seemed to be Ortu, there were more that were under his control, implying the real Ortu was either a hive mind or hidden away controlling them. Breetai and Khyron escaped and their ships destroyed Ortu's ship, along with Ortu, but Breetai fought a simulation of Ortu while drugged and trapped in a Combat Simulator by Khyron.
