Robotech: Return to Macross 27: To Be The Pirate King is the twenty-seventh issue of Robotech: Return To Macross, released in 1995.
Plot summary[]
An emergency warning goes off and Interceptor Missiles are launches but detonate prematurely. A Missile had been fired at Macross Island but were taken out by a Veritech in Guardian Mode with no casualties. In a meeting with Gloval and Roy, Tom Bennington goes off about how things are getting dangerous and the island is one big target. The teams go over the missile wreckage and find its made of various parts, some over 2 decades old. They haven't found the launch site but suspect it could be New Federalists of Faithful or be connected to the hack by Salamander. They got a message saying they want Roy to go to a location at noon and on June 01, Roy is dropped off in a life raft in the sea by a chopper and if nothing happens after 4 hours, he'd be retrieved. He thinks about if he's going to die out here and about how Claudia isn't speaking to him over the Nina issue and how he urged Dr. Wilbur to do what made him get shot. As he thinks of his past issues like the Stolen Veritech he finds an item in the water that's producing Radar Jamming Chaff, then a metal device captures Roy and he wakes up inside an underwater location. He meets Adam Burrows who is Moira's brother who reveals there are 200 Lemurians around and the RDF never found this base they had that was made by a rich European family during the Global War to hide in. The family ditched the project but the Lemurians found it and made it habitable and were laying low since Moira died and hijacked info from passing ships. Now they want to fulfill Moira's last wish, for Roy to be the leader of the Lemurians. After the smoke and chaff from above, the RDF thinks Roy is dead and now he's free to do what he wants. Burrow had sent the missile to Macross Island that would have hit the ocean even if they weren't taken out to bring him here and if he says no, he'd wake up in California with 3 weeks of his memory wiped. Adam plays a message of Moira saying to get Roy as the leader as he wants Edwards dead too. Roy reveals the RDF was tracking them with satellites and 2 subs are nearing the area. Adam calls to evacuate the base and Roy takes a pistol and at gunpoint, tells Adam and his last man to get on the last escape ship as he's going to stay and let tell the RDF a cover story.
