Plot summary[]
It is 2019, and the Robotech Defense Force is marking the fifth anniversary of the Battle of New Macross City. During the ceremony, Captain Rick Hunter is promoted to Major General in advance of the upcoming Pioneer Expedition. Subsequently, they are interrupted by an alarm as Yokohama is attacked by a band of Malcontents.
Hunter is then contacted by General Leonard of the Army of the Southern Cross, who orders him to lead a squadron to investigate the missing Zentraedi flagship. Pegasus Squadron launches, with Hunter remembering his "big brother" Roy Fokker. One pilot, LT Castillo, is shot down in an ambush.
After destroying the enemy craft, Hunter reminisces on his time aboard the SDF-1, where he spoke to Roy Fokker just prior to his death in battle. Though Pegasus Squadron had hoped to arrive at Macwilson Island, they arrive to find out hit has been leveled in another Malcontent attack.
