Publisher's summary[]
As the confict with Zeraal and his Zentraedi malcontents heats up, Rick Hunter remembers the first time peace between the two races seemed possible, and the legendary speech Captain Gloval gave in support of that dream…
Plot summary[]
Pegasus Squadron continues on their mission. They are ambushed by Zeraal's Malcontent's, and Hunter engages the enemy commander in hand-to-hand mecha combat, but Zeraal manages to escape. During the battle, Hunter wrestles with his morality, reflecting on Gloval's wedding speech. Vince Grant is shot down.
Back at the stolen flagship, Zeraal is rushed to a Protoculture Chamber for regeneration. Meanwhile, Pegasus Squadron regroups, but they realize they are low on supplies. Grant contacts General Anatole Eli Leonard over the Global Military Police network and blackmails him over rumors of his relationship with the Zentraedi Seloy Deparra. The rest of the squadron listen to the broadcast of the Lynn Minmei concert. More supplies arrive, including the prototype VHT-Prototype-Zero.
Having recovered, Zeraal leads a strike force to his final objective, the shuttered Southern Grand Cannon.
