The SDF-3 is the third human Battlefortress to be built by the United Earth Government and the REF. The SDF-3 Pioneer is the Flagship of the REF and the Pioneer Expedition to the Robotech Masters's homeworld of Tirol in the year 2022, and also carried onboard mankind's only Protoculture Matrix.
History[]
It was constructed and launched by the RFS in time for the Pioneer Expedition in December 2022.
Rogue Zentraedi once tried to steal it. The plot was personally thwarted by General Breetai.
The crew arrived at Tirol to free it from the Invid invasion. They took out the fleet but their fold engines were destroyed, stranding the REF there.
Shortly afterward, they encountered the Sentinels, and the Hunters and other key members of the REF joined them. The SDF-3 remained at Tirol for the majority of the conflict.

It carried Veritechs, other mecha, and the GMU. Reflex Cannons were placed in the twin booms.
