The SDF-3 was the flagship for the Pioneer Expedition, and was transformed from Breetai's flagship at the RFS.
The Malcontents tried to hijack it when it was under construction, but were thwarted by Breetai.
Commanded by Rick Hunter and Lisa Hunter, it launched with the REF aboard, and arrived at Tiroll after a time-dilation effect of five years, and helped free the planet from the Invid.
The ship was stranded there for over three years because its fold drives were lost in transit, while many members joined the Sentinels.
Later, when they tried to return to Earth, the vessel was trapped in "Newspace." The children aboard, affected by Protoculture, were able to wish new fold drives - the ones from the SDF-1 - and were able to escape and return home. But another time dilation effect had occurred, so it was ten years later.
