The SSGN Minsk was a Russian Oscar-class submarine.

The bridge of the Minsk.

In 1999, it was under the command of Captain Henry Gloval. The Minsk was in the South Pacific where it was trailed by the USS Kenosha and its carrier battle group after reports surfaced that an Oscar class submarine had been sold to a foreign power.

The Minsk was near Macross Island where it was found by the Kenosha and narrowly avoided been sunk by the crash landing of an unknown flying object on the island. (Robotech: From the Stars comic: "From the Stars")

Behind the scenes

No Oscar-class submarine has been named Minsk, though an aircraft carrier of that name did serve with the Soviet and later Russian navies from 1978 to 1994. The carrier's namesake is the city of Minsk, the capital of Belarus.
