Sam during his first time in combat. (Robotech II: The Sentinels: Here, There, and Everywhere)
Sam was a Lieutenant on board the SDF-3 during the Pioneer Expedition's mission to Tirol. His first taste of combat was during a mission to reclaim an unknown pair of life-forms on an EVA shuttle which had been caught in the Space Fold to the moon, along with First Robotech War veteran Jonathan Wolfe. Both he and Wolfe piloted VF-8 Logans. At the same time they were attempting this, a conflict with a mysterious group of aliens known as the Invid began nearby. He was successfully able to defend the craft from the Invid in time for Jonathan to grab information from the shuttle and the two life forms -- Lynn Minmei and Janice Em.
