"Separate Ways" is the seventy-fifth episode of Robotech TV series and the fifteenth episode of the third season.
Summary[]
Scott Bernard and his band of Robotech resistance fighters are attacked by an Invid squadron lead by an Invid Enforcer. The aftermath of the battle causes Rook to question her involvement with the group.
Plot[]
An Invid Enforcer and a team of Invid Fighters attack the party whose supply of protoculture is depleted. The party flees. Scott attempts to stop the Invid squadron while others flee but his efforts are in vain, due to the Invid Enforcer's combat superiority. The party enters a subway system to elude the Invid. However, the Invid Enforcer decides to bury them by blasting the tunnel as well as a whole building on top of them. After the all protoculture-consuming equipment are powered down, the Invid Enforcer is still not satisfied with their destruction and assigns his accompanying Invid Fighters to ensure the party's destruction.
If the burden of being buried alive was not enough, Lunk's psychological integrity fails and he proceeds to beat up Scott and Rand, blaming them for their situation. Lunk is eventually subdued and brought back to sense; however, by and by, the idea of breaking from the group starts to creep into every member's mind. They stammer the rationale behind the whole mission and its chance of success. Rook Bartley particularly decides to break away.
The problem of having no escape however, is still unresolved. As the Invid Fighters attempt to clear the blockade, Rand comes up with the dangerous idea of blowing up the blockade with protoculture canisters. Despite the risk, the party eventually blows up the blockade and slaughters the Invid squadron behind it with extreme ease.
After being released, the party finds Annie LaBelle waiting for them. Annie explains that she has deserted her "husband" and his tribe with the sole intention of joining the Robotech party. Eventually, Annie's presence causes the entire group to maintain their unity and remain together; although perhaps Ariel's reason to stay was different.
