Small White Dragon (known as Little White Dragon in some sources) was a movie starring Lynn Minmei, produced in 2010 and released in January 2011 on board the SDF-1. It was advertised making it the first movie produced entirely in space, (Macross Saga: "Homecoming", "Farewell, Big Brother") but had actually been mostly produced during the SDF-1's time on Earth. (Robotech: Little White Dragon) Set during the year 999 A.D., the story mixed historical and mythological aspects of Japan with elements of the war with the Zentraedi - such as giants and Battlepods. (Macross Saga: "A New Dawn," Robotech: Little White Dragon) The story was apparently based on true events, although aspects of the movie were certainly fictionalized. Zentraedi who had been watching the transmission were unable to tell fact from fiction. (Macross Saga: "A New Dawn", "Battle Hymn", Robotech: Little White Dragon)
Behind the Scenes[]
In the original Macross Saga section of Robotech, Minmei's first feature film is called "Small White Dragon" by those in the show. In the comic adaptation of "Battle Hymn," it was decided to refer to the film as "Little White Dragon," as it was a more correct translation of "Shao Pai Long." As an homage to these early adaptations, more recent comics (including Robotech: From the Stars and Robotech: Little White Dragon) have also referred to the later as correct.
