"The Big Apple" is the 82nd episode of Robotech, part of Robotech: The New Generation.

Summary[]

Scott's band of freedom fighters arrive in the ruins of New York, intent on resupplying and heading to nearby Reflex Point for the final showdown. But Corg has plans to stop them in their tracks by targeting the civilians still eking out an existence among the ruins.

Synopsis[]

After several defeats, the Invid are prepared to unleash an elaborate surveillance network designed to capture the elusive freedom fighters as they enter the once proud city of New York, now a ruin inhabited by only a few humans eking out an existence.

Lancer, Rand, and Annie head into a building where the Invid appear to be storing protoculture. Breaking in, the trio are nearly spotted by an Invid Soldier, but the sounds of a mewing cat distract it. As it turns out, it wasn't a cat at all, but one of the performers at a nearby theater who decided to help the freedom fighters out.

Arriving at the theater, Lancer meets up with Simon, who runs the theater. He gives them the lowdown on the Invid, when suddenly, Corg arrives with a huge contingent of Invid, and begin laying waste to the civilian population of the city in order to either draw out the freedom fighters or kill them.

Moving the performers of the theater into some old tunnels, Lancer's group is able to rendezvous with Scott, Lunk, and the rest. Taking Simon's words to heart -- "The people need something to inspire them to fight back against the Invid" -- Lancer performs as Yellow Dancer, with the performers as backup. Galvanizing the population, Scott is then able to lead an attack on the new undefended Invid hive, drawing the aliens back to their home.

Just in time: the aliens are wiped out in the subsequent explosion of the hive. Corg rages, having been vanquished by a handful of renegade humans yet again.

Marlene, having been cornered by Sera during the confrontation, now has to struggle with the knowledge that she is, in fact, an Invid.
