"The Midnight Sun" is the seventy-seventh episode of Robotech TV series and the seventeenth episode of the third season.
Summary[]
Scott Bernard and his band of Robotech fighters are ambushed by Invid forces.
Plot[]
Scott Bernard and his band of Robotech resistance fighters enter snow-covered mountains. On their tail is the Invid princess Sera, still disturbed from her last encounter with Lancer.
While dining, Ariel (known then as Marlene) has another headache that the party interprets as an upcoming Invid attack. Having the party surrounded and isolated from their battle mecha, the Invid attacks and separates the fleeing party members into two groups. Sera personally pursues Scott and goes in for kill but Lancer intervenes and once again distract her.
An avalanche further separates the party and the Invid. Rand, Rook Bartley and Annie LaBelle head for a forest. Invid Shocktroopers follow them closely but extremely cautiously. Their caution however, is not misplaced, as they fall into various traps and are eventually destroyed. In time, Ariel and Lancer come face to face with Sera. Sera, who has managed to fight off the Lancer's effect on herself, once again finds herself stunned; this time by the sight of Ariel. While Invid Regess tries to contact Ariel, the reunited band of Robotech fighters attack with their primitive weapons and manage to destroy the ground beneath Sera and her escort, sending them toppling into a valley with a piece of the cliff coming on top of them.
The party recovers and sets out again, with Sera on their tail again. Both Ariel and Sera are extremely disturbed by their recent experience but are not willing to confide in anyone.
Background information[]
"The Midnight Sun" was based on the original Japanese episode of Genesis Climber MOSPEADA entitled "Hakuya no Serenāde" (Meaning "White Night Serenade" in English) that was aired 29 January, 1984 in Japan.
