Tom Bennington was a member of the RDF in the mid 00s

In May of 2005 Amanda Devane alongside Barrows and Grinolds had a meeting with Henry Gloval, Dr. Lang, Tom Bennington as well as Roy Fokker, Lisa Hayes, Claudia Grant and Rolf Emerson over sightings of a man Roy then revealed was Sergeant Robert Hyser who he knew from years ago when Hyser came to investigate vandalism of a prototype and works for RDF Airpad Security. Barrows claimed there are no files on him but Roy disagreed. Global called for cooler heads as Amanda said there's more to this than it seems as its not a one off incident. She went on to say how she was instrumental for laying the groundwork for the RDF and Macross Island projects as well as Dr. Lang's research and kept political whims out of it. But she could only do so much, especially when there's reports to the council of Destroids being stolen or Civilian Protesters gaining access to restricted areas or Nationalist Attacks on RDF Property with aid from RDF Personnel. With this, she said how she may have given too much and too quick and came up with New Guidelines to be effective 1 June. Gloval asked if its needed but she responded that with Nationalist groups on the rise, something needed to be done. When Roy asked if this had to do with the Prometheus and Daedalus rumored to be arriving, she was not surprised to see him deep in security breakdowns. As the meeting came to a close, she reassured Gloval that the changes are mostly cosmetic and won't interfere with him and Lang's work (Robotech: Academy Blues: The Calm Before...).

In late May an emergency warning went off and Interceptor Missiles were launches but detonate prematurely. Missiles had been fired at Macross Island but were taken out by a Veritech in Guardian Mode with no casualties. In a meeting with Gloval and Roy, Tom went off about how things were getting dangerous and the island was one big target. The teams went over the missile wreckage and found its made of various parts, some over 2 decades old. They haven't found the launch site but suspect it could be New Federalists of Faithful or be connected to the hack by Salamander. They got a message saying they wanted Roy to go to a location at noon and on June 01, Roy ws dropped off in a life raft in the sea by a chopper and if nothing happened after 4 hours, he'd be retrieved (Robotech: Return To Macross: To Be The Pirate King).

After Roy pulled a stunt in a Veritech to win back Claudia, Tom volunteered Roy for practice drills where Roy played the enemy and the other pilots tried to take him out. Tom also wanted to use the Prometheus and Daedalus to protect Admiral Hayes and when a Civilian Whale Watching Ship comes near the area and didn't answer any calls, the Veritechs were sent in to investigate. Roy told the other pilots the ship is there to take a peak at the SDF-1 but it launched an emergency buoy that says its the IAS Aurora they lost their communication and guidance systems and needed help (Robotech: Return To Macross: Coming Attractions).

Later, Roy was brought in by the GMP to meet Tom over Tony Tolbert being beat up. Tony was held in connection to Federalist attacks near the SDF-1 and the attacker knocked out 3 guards, disabled 7 cameras and knew the codes to get by security, as well as the new procedures. Tom was having the procedures changed back and Roy wondered why the Federalists didn't kill Tony if they wanted him silenced (Robotech: Return To Macross: Storm Warnings).

After Gerald McBain of The Sons Of The Constitution took over the Mobile Launch Assembly and took Admiral Hayes captive, The RDF members discussed what to do about how it had 2 shuttles, the Orion and the Gryphon and how the attackers planed to take the Achilles as it only had a skeleton crew. They planed to take out the shuttles and send Roy, Scott and Perlman but Perlman was blown out of the sky and Scott was shot down but landed on an island as Roy took out an enemy jet and the shuttles escaped (Robotech: Return To Macross: Achille's Heel).

Roy returned after having failed to stop the shuttles and felt helpless and having to report back to Tom who Lisa said to watch out for as he was wiling to sacrifice her dad (Robotech: Return To Macross: High Combat).

After the events with the Federalists, Military Police on Macross Island raided civilian places and Walter St. John confronted Tommy Luan over it but Tom Bennington said it was to prevent the Federalists from escaping (Robotech: Return To Macross: Never Can Say Goodbye).
