The VF-1S Valkyrie was a three-mode variable fighter assigned to commanding officers of Veritech squadrons. Only a dozen of units had been manufactured by the time of the Zentraedi attack on Macross Island in 2009. The prototype number 001, Skull-One, was originally designated the YF-1.
Roy Fokker flew it during the First Robotech War until his death, and it was then flown by Rick Hunter. (Robotech: The Macross Saga)
It was the last known surviving VF-1S aboard the SDF-1. In 2015, the Skull One, the oldest surviving VF-1 in the Robotech Defense Force, was dismantled to aid in the research of the next-generation of Veritech fighters. (Robotech: From the Stars)
Jack Archer was also assigned a VF-1S during his final fights with Zeraal. (Robotech: Battlecry)
In one source, it states there were models still in use in 2046 by the Robotech Expeditionary Force, including an upgraded model the VF-25 that had Fold Engines installed. (Robotech: The Sentinels: Rubicon)
Wing Hardpoints[]
The VF-1 series Veritech fighters can mount weaponry on up to 4 wing hardpoints. (Robotech: The Macross Saga Sourcebook) Each hardpoint can carry:
- 3 medium range missiles
- 2 long-range missiles
- 1 MLOP (containing 15 mini-missiles)
- 1,125 kg of gravity bombs
